Amorphous Aesthetics at Hotel Corazón

The opening of the luxurious Hotel Corazón in the breathtaking landscape of Serra de Tramuntana, Mallorca, was the fulfilment of a long established dream for contemporary photographer Kate Bellm and Edgar Lopez.

The bespoke hotel, named after the Spanish word for “heart”, is situated on a former farm and combines high-end service and luxurious design with a close collaborative spirit. Sunst drew on the history and aesthetics of the local area to create a visual language that went completely against the “recognition value” of a more clinical corporate design and instead created an amorphous brand identity with flexible signature elements that reflected and elevated the art-infused hang out.

The 15-room hotel lies halfway between Deià and Sóller and is situated close to the sea and set deep into the Tramuntana Mountains. The hotel is run by artists to cater to other like-minded people, who, rather than disappearing into luxury, want to be immersed in a completely different way of life. For Sunst, finding a way to communicate that creative freedom through the visual language was key to fulfilling the brief.

For decades the island has attracted musics, poets, artists and musicians, so for the hoteliers it was important to continue that legacy and to capture that alternative, laidback vibe. Sunst set about crafting a multi-dimensional visual system, that allowed for a flexible, adaptable approach, locking in with the free-living, inventiveness that drives the conceptual ideas behind the hotel. This was about going as far away as possible from a corporate, chain hotel as it was possible to go. Working hand-in-hand with Kate and Edgar, every decision ensured that the free-flowing, creative vibe of the hotel was communicated and disseminated.

Alongside contemporary artist and designer Magnus Reid, we expanded upon his work with icon illustrations. To evoke a sense of spontaneity and creativity, we struck a balance between simplicity and character, experimenting with unconventional layouts and typography.

When designing and developing the website for Hotel Corazón, our aim was to craft a distinctive online presence that reflected the hotel’s open, creative aesthetic while providing an intuitive, user-friendly experience.

Inspired by the free-spirited photography of Kate Bellm, we created a versatile visual system for all social media channels—an open-ended, dynamic approach that seamlessly integrates icon illustrations, photography, logos, and text overlays, all capturing the hotel’s unique vibe and expressive energy.
